UX Designer Component Library Solo Project 2022

User Research Low & High Fidelity Designs.

UI Designer Usability Testing

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Previously, I designed MEDICUBE, a mobile application that allows patients to book appointments and communicate with their doctors seamlessly. This new design builds upon that foundation.
The focus of this project is to simplify schedule management for doctors, enabling them to efficiently organize appointments, patient information, and workflows. For more details on the initial MEDICUBE design, feel free to explore the earlier project.

THE PROBLEM

Doctors struggle with overbooking, clashing schedules, and limited access to patient histories, hindering efficient workflow.

In a system where proper documentation and information management are lacking, many doctors are frequently overbooked, have clashing appointments, struggle to keep track of their appointments, and have little to no knowledge of patients' medical histories.

THE SOLUTION

This design streamlines record-keeping, prevents scheduling conflicts, and helps doctors efficiently manage their time, activities, and patient payments.

The solution simplifies patient record management by digitizing medical histories, resolves scheduling conflicts through an organized appointment system, and enables doctors to efficiently manage their time, track activities, and monitor patient payments.

RESEARCH.

A Way to enhance patient care…

As a solo project, I began by gaining clarity on the goals and objectives of the Medicube application. To better understand potential users, I conducted extensive online research, exploring the limitations of similar dashboards and identifying gaps in existing systems. I also observed how hospitals in my home country struggled with disorganized schedules and poor patient management due to the lack of such tools. These insights guided my design process, allowing me to create a solution tailored to the needs of doctors and healthcare facilities.

USER RESEARCH.

Doctors were 2x more likely to use Medicube if it streamlined scheduling and provided real-time patient updates…

Due to accessibility constraints, I was unable to conduct interviews with a large number of doctors. Instead, I interviewed my family's doctor and complemented these insights with extensive online research to understand the challenges faced by healthcare professionals. This approach allowed me to identify key pain points and user needs, which informed my design decisions.

INTERVIEW QUESTIONS:

  • What tools do you currently use for scheduling and patient management?

  • What are the biggest challenges you face with these tools?

  • How do inefficiencies in patient management affect your workflow?

  • What features would make a dashboard most useful for your practice?

  • What would motivate you to switch to a new management system?

USER PERSONA

DESIGN

Setback and New Direction

Initially, I spent a couple of days exploring various design options, experimenting with different versions and trying to determine the best approach. I initially considered making Medicube an app, but after careful evaluation, I realized that a dashboard would be a more suitable solution for doctors. A dashboard would better accommodate the comprehensive features I intended to include, providing a more efficient and user-friendly experience.

THE FINAL DESIGN

THE STYLE GUIDE

CONCLUSION

Designing Medicube was a challenging yet rewarding process. The project evolved from an app concept to a dashboard solution, addressing key issues like disorganized schedules and inefficient patient management. The final design provides a user-friendly, feature-rich tool tailored to doctors' needs.

LESSONS LEARNED AND WHAT I’D DO DIFFERENTLY NEXT TIME:

This project taught me the importance of clear goal-setting, adaptability, and user engagement. In the future, I would prioritise conducting more interviews with diverse healthcare professionals to gather broader insights, establish a clear design roadmap to save time, and incorporate iterative user testing to align the solution closely with real-world needs.
This experience has strengthened my commitment to user-centered design and adaptability, lessons I will carry forward into future projects.
