 PROBLEM

Individuals and business owners often struggle to provide or receive fast, reliable, and seamless product deliveries.

Traffic congestion in Lagos, Nigeria, poses significant challenges for sending items across the city, causing delays and higher operational costs. This inspired Ekomile to ask: How can we make deliveries faster, more convenient and less expensive?

THE SOLUTION

Eko-Mile leverages logistics and last-mile delivery services alongside existing city infrastructure to provide cost-effective and efficient deliveries.

Here are some features Ekomile has integrated to provide users, whether individuals or businesses, with the best logistics experience through the use of technology.

STRATEGY PAPER RESEARCH

Achieving cost-effective and efficient deliveries with near-perfect reliability.

Following the stakeholder meeting, we gained a clear understanding of the client's goals and the application's objectives. The next step was to conduct research to better understand potential users—who they are, their needs, why they need the application, how they currently manage deliveries, and their overall perspective on the problem we're addressing. With these insights, we proceeded to design, guided by the findings from our research.

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS + THE GAP

The competition lacked a dedicated app for their riders.

The logistics landscape in Lagos is highly competitive, with numerous delivery companies vying for market dominance. Ekomile stands out by offering;

• Competitive Pricing: We stand out by offering delivery services at about 50% lower costs than our competitors.

• Technological Integration: Eko-Mile uses advanced technology to streamline operations, improve tracking, and optimize routes.

• Local Expertise: Based in Lagos, Eko-Mile leverages local expertise and strong networks.

• Forward-Thinking Approach: Eko-Mile's proactive approach includes plans to expand across major Lagos routes and estates, enhancing accessibility and convenience.

USER RESEARCH

Interviews revealed that users were 2x more likely to use the app if it offers real-time package tracking and cost-effective delivery options.

We interviewed 5 business owners and 5 individuals who frequently use delivery services but have struggled to find the best logistics solution. We asked them several questions to understand the challenges they face and then organized the data using affinity mapping.

• What logistics services are you currently using, and what made you choose them?

• What are the biggest challenges you face with your current logistics provider?

• How do delays or issues in delivery affect your business operations?

• What features or services do you wish your logistics provider offered that they currently do not?

• Have you ever considered switching logistics providers? If so, what factors influenced your decision?

For Individuals:

• What delivery services do you typically use, and why?

• What problems have you encountered with delivery services in the past?

• How do you feel about the reliability and punctuality of your current delivery provider?

• What are your biggest frustrations when using delivery services?

• What could make the delivery experience more convenient or enjoyable for you?

This project, which took nearly a year to ideate, design, test, and implement, provided valuable insights into addressing last-mile logistics challenges in a rapidly evolving market. By leveraging existing infrastructure and technology, we developed solutions like advanced route optimization and real-time tracking tools that streamline operations, enhance user satisfaction, and tackle real-world inefficiencies. The process involved countless iterations, hundreds of screens, and extensive user testing to ensure the product truly meets user needs.

This project was an incredible learning experience for me and the entire DAMDAM team. Currently, the app is in the pre-launch phase and is under development as the team works on implementing the latest design updates. Thanks for reading!
